Kanene Kachikwu, Chairman of the Agbor Stakeholders Forum, has lauded Godwin Emefiele, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as the most competent and impactful individual to ever lead the apex bank in Nigeria’s history.

Despite Emefiele’s recent suspension by President Bola Tinubu over alleged involvement in multibillion-naira fraudulent transactions during his tenure, Kachikwu’s forum issued a statement praising Emefiele’s leadership. The forum highlighted that economic indicators during Emefiele’s tenure under former President Muhammadu Buhari showed his administration was instrumental in navigating the economy through two recessions and setting it on a path to recovery.

The group defended Emefiele against allegations, suggesting that the ongoing probe and prosecution were politically motivated. They claimed that the accusations were a witch hunt aimed at tarnishing his credibility for his efforts in salvaging the economy.

The forum emphasized Emefiele’s role as a pivotal figure in President Buhari’s administration, noting various economic interventions and policies implemented by the CBN under his leadership. These included measures to reduce frivolous importation and boost local production, as well as initiatives to support agriculture, manufacturing, and small-scale industries.

According to the forum, Emefiele’s CBN provided significant financial support to key projects such as the Lagos State Redline and Blueline rail projects, ensuring their completion and contributing to the economy’s development.
