Muyiwa Adejobi, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, has expressed optimism about the country’s security situation, stating that it is improving rather than worsening. Adejobi made this assertion while addressing journalists in Ibadan during the presentation of awards to the winners of boxing and archery competitions in the 14th Biennial Nigeria Police Game (BIPOGA 2024).

Contrary to widespread belief, Adejobi dismissed many of the unfortunate incidents of insecurity circulating on social media as old stories being recycled to appear new. He emphasized that these incidents are not being reported by conventional media houses in the same manner they are on social media.

According to Adejobi, the Nigeria Police Force collects data and has information on the security situation from all its offices, and if the situation were truly worrisome, they would inform Nigerians. He highlighted that while there are isolated cases of insecurity, the force has arrested and neutralized many kidnappers.

He urged Nigerians to differentiate between real and staged kidnappings, pointing out that some individuals plan fake kidnappings to extort ransom from their families. Adejobi emphasized that the police and other security agencies in Nigeria will continue to collaborate to ensure the country’s security.
