The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) announced on Tuesday that it had sealed over 700 buildings due to various violations in 2023. Mr. Kehinde Osinaike, the General Manager of LASPPPA, disclosed this during an enforcement operation across Ikeja Local Government area.

Osinaike emphasized that the authority’s actions were aimed at preventing building collapses in 2024 by addressing physical planning violations and ensuring compliance with the state’s vision for well-planned urban development.

He noted that the state government is dedicated to the sustainable growth and development of Lagos, emphasizing the importance of a well-organized urban environment for the welfare of all residents.

Despite the enforcement measures taken in 2023, Osinaike highlighted the persistence of illegal construction activities, leading the authority to initiate early enforcement in 2024. He mentioned that out of the 700 sealed buildings, a significant number later complied with the regulations, resulting in the unsealing and regularization of their papers.

While commending compliant residents, Osinaike urged developers and property owners who flout regulations to change their behavior for the benefit of safety and orderliness in the state.

The General Manager emphasized the role of voluntary compliance in ensuring the safety of lives and investments, as well as maintaining environmental orderliness. He encouraged Lagos residents to seek guidance from LASPPPA district offices before engaging in land purchase or property development, highlighting the authority’s efforts to facilitate faster planning permit approvals, with a turnaround time of 10 days.

Osinaike also advised prospective land buyers to consult with planning offices to verify the suitability of the land and obtain information on encroachments or setbacks on the property.
