Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has called for an emergency security meeting following a surge in kidnapping incidents by bandits in Bwari Area Council and other parts of the territory. Addressing the gathering, Wike assured residents that both his administration and security agencies were actively addressing the situation and urged them not to be alarmed.

“We are all aware of the security challenges in the Federal Capital Territory, particularly in Bwari and some other areas. While the media sometimes exaggerates the situation, we are committed to ensuring the safety of the FCT. There is no cause for panic, as we are taking necessary steps to resolve these challenges,” Wike stated.

The meeting aimed to address these security concerns and find effective solutions, with Wike emphasizing the role of the Council Chairmen in managing issues within their respective areas. He also cautioned against unnecessary trips by the chairmen, stressing the need for them to remain vigilant and accountable.

“We will not tolerate a situation where Area Council Chairmen neglect their duties by traveling unnecessarily. It has come to our attention that some Chairmen neglect their responsibilities, leading to issues like the recent teachers’ strike. They must fulfill their obligations and not blame the FCT Minister for their shortcomings,” Wike warned.

The Minister’s remarks come in the wake of escalating kidnappings in Bwari Area Council, culminating in reports of kidnappers dumping the remains of their victims along the Abuja-Kaduna highway. The recent wave of kidnappings has raised concerns about the security situation in the FCT, prompting the government to take swift action to address the growing threat.
