Delayed demolition stalling costal highway project – Umahi

The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, commenced the demolition of a portion of Landmark Beach in Lagos to make way for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. Umahi, after inspecting several kilometers, deemed the demolition necessary due to the location of Landmark Beach on Federal Government right-of-way. He emphasized the need for the demolition to ensure the project’s continuation and economic development, despite opposition from some quarters.

The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, on Saturday in Lagos, flagged off the demolition of a section of the Landmark Beach, the Mami Chula Beach Lifestyle, to give way to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

Umahi assured affected individuals of adequate compensation and announced the start of documentation for compensation between May 2 and May 3. He also pledged his availability throughout the week to address any concerns regarding the demolition.

Bolaji Ariyo, CEO of Mami Chula Beach, acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the project but emphasized its importance for national development. He expressed support for the government’s efforts, recognizing that development often requires sacrifices from a few for the benefit of many.

Ariyo highlighted the long-standing need for the project and praised the government’s commitment to addressing it. He acknowledged being personally affected by the demolition but emphasized the greater good of the coastal roads project for millions of Nigerians.

In summary, Umahi initiated the demolition of Landmark Beach to facilitate the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, stressing the project’s importance for economic development. Despite opposition and inconvenience to some individuals, both Umahi and Ariyo emphasized the necessity of the project for national progress and expressed support for the government’s efforts.
