The Nigeria Police Force has refunded over N80 million extorted by the Anti-Cyber Crime Unit at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of Rivers State Police Command to Davidson John Atubi, the Chairman of a pipeline surveillance company. Alongside the funds, other seized items including two plasma televisions, gold worth over N5 million, and a standing fan have also been returned to Atubi.

Human rights activist Israel Joe, who exposed the police team’s actions, confirmed that the money and items were refunded on December 22. He revealed that nearly N89 million in cash, two plasma TVs, gold valued at over N5 million, and a standing fan, which had been taken from Atubi’s home in Port Harcourt, were handed over to him and his team.

Israel Joe expressed gratitude for the resolution of the case after numerous efforts in Port Harcourt and Abuja seeking justice. He commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and his team for their swift action in addressing the issue and cleaning up the Rivers State Police Command.

The activist also called on the new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Tunji Disu, to continue monitoring the activities of rogue policemen to prevent similar incidents in the future.
