Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared three days of state mourning in honour of the late Rotimi Akeredolu, former governor of Ondo State and Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum. Governor Makinde, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, issued this directive in a statement released on Thursday in Ibadan by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

Akeredolu passed away on Wednesday morning in Germany, where he had been undergoing medical treatment. Following his demise, he has been succeeded as governor of Ondo State by his former deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

In honour of Akeredolu’s memory, Governor Makinde has ordered that all flags at public offices in Oyo State be flown at half-mast for three days. This gesture reflects the state’s respect and mourning for the late governor.

Governor Makinde and the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Governor Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman of Kwara State, paid a visit to the late Akeredolu’s residence in Ibadan on Wednesday evening. Their visit was a sign of solidarity and support for the family of the deceased during this difficult time.
