Governor Radda Empowers Farmers for Increased Agricultural Production in Katsina State

In a bid to boost agricultural productivity and food security in Katsina State, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has provided support to over 2,040 farmers with fertilizers, improved agricultural seedlings, and other equipment for mechanized farming.

Governor Radda launched the first phase of the Dry Season Agricultural Initiative Programme at the Gwaigwaye irrigation site in Dikke ward, Funtua Local Government Area. The initiative aims to empower farmers across the state’s 34 Local Government Areas by providing them with free dry season inputs.

Highlighting the significance of agriculture in driving economic growth, Governor Radda expressed his administration’s commitment to the sector’s development. He emphasized the programme’s potential to reduce poverty, create employment opportunities, and enhance the state’s revenue generation.

Governor Radda lauded the Ministry of Agriculture, Local Government, and Chieftaincy Affairs for their support and announced plans for training sessions and the deployment of extension officers to guide farmers in adopting best practices.

The state’s Commissioner of Agriculture, Professor Ahmed Mohammed Bakori, outlined the support that would be provided to the farmers, including improved seeds, fertilizer, and pesticide chemicals. He also highlighted the government’s investment in irrigation infrastructure, such as tube wells and solar-powered water pumping machines.

Professor Badamasi Lawal Charanci, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, affirmed that the initiative fulfilled Governor Radda’s campaign promise. He revealed that 60 farmers from each Local Government Area would benefit from the first phase, with plans for the second phase’s launch in the coming week.

Engr. Bello Lawal Yandaki, the state ALGON Chairman, expressed gratitude for Governor Radda’s support and assured diligent monitoring by council chairmen to ensure the effective utilization of inputs for improved food production and security across the state.
