During the commissioning of the 5-km Masaka-Luvu road in Karu Local Government of Nasarawa State, Vice President Kashim Shettima urged Nigerians to unite in the fight against poverty, destitution, and backwardness. He emphasized the importance of embracing diversity and living together in peace for the nation’s security, progress, and development.

Mr Shettima highlighted the essential role of peace in fostering meaningful development, quoting Martin Luther King’s words, “We either learn to live together as brothers, or we perish together as fools.” He stressed the need for communities to come together, tolerate one another, and work collectively to address common challenges, especially poverty and destitution in Northern Nigeria.

The vice president commended Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State for his efforts in maintaining peace in the region and urged Nigerians to resist actions that could lead to anarchy. He cautioned against agents of destruction who seek to incite violence in volatile parts of the country, emphasizing the difficulty of restoring peace once it is disrupted.

Mr Shettima also highlighted the government’s commitment to infrastructure development across Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu. He announced plans to introduce the school feeding programme nationwide in 2024, emphasizing its importance in nurturing the potential of children from all backgrounds.

In his remarks, Governor Abdullahi Sule expressed gratitude to the vice president for commissioning the road, which had been a dream for the past 15 years. He expressed delight that the road project had been completed during his tenure, marking a significant achievement for the state.
