The Labour Party (LP) has raised concerns over the safety of its national chairman, Julius Abure, following an alleged arson attack on his residence in Abuja. The party claimed that Abure narrowly escaped an assassination attempt during the incident.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Obiora Ifoh, described the attack as an “assassination attempt” on Abure’s life. According to Ifoh, the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning while Abure and his family were asleep.

The statement revealed that the arson attack resulted in a mysterious fire that engulfed Abure’s residence. The family was reportedly alerted to the danger by neighbours and security personnel in the compound, who noticed the fire.

The situation became critical as the fire spread to the staircase, blocking the family’s escape route. However, with the help of neighbours and security personnel, a window was broken, allowing Abure and his family to escape the inferno.

Emergency services were called to the scene, and Abure and his family were subsequently taken to a private hospital for treatment. Despite the ordeal, their condition is said to be stable.

The LP expressed grave concern over the incident, calling for a thorough investigation to unravel the perpetrators behind the attack. The party also called for increased security measures to protect the lives and property of its members.
