The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has praised the Federal Government for postponing the implementation of the Expatriate Employment Levy (EEL). NECA’s director-general, Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, expressed this approval in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday.

Oyerinde applauded the Minister of Interior and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment for their roles in delaying the EEL implementation. He noted that while NECA understands the objectives of the scheme in managing expatriate employment in Nigeria, the government’s decision shows genuine concern for organized businesses.

He described the government’s swift response to the concerns of organized businesses as commendable, highlighting the administration’s responsiveness to stakeholders’ issues.

The director-general called on the government to engage further with stakeholders, including the Organised Private Sector (OPS). He emphasized the importance of inclusive engagement to develop workable solutions for the economy and the private sector.

The government’s decision to suspend the EEL implementation followed concerns raised by stakeholders. This resolution was reached during a meeting on March 8, led by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and attended by a delegation headed by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite.

The move to suspend the EEL implementation has been met with support from stakeholders, including NECA, who appreciate the government’s willingness to listen to their concerns and engage in constructive dialogue.
