CSOs in Edo State Protest Economic Hardship, Demand Government Action

Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Edo State staged a protest in Benin City on Monday to decry the prevailing economic hardship faced by Nigerians. The protesters carried placards with messages demanding an end to the economic challenges, including slogans like “End Economic Hardship” and “FG End the Hunger in Nigeria Now.”

The demonstration in Benin City mirrors similar protests in Ibadan and Lagos, where residents voiced their dissatisfaction with the rising cost of living and soaring food prices.

The protest comes on the heels of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) announcing plans for a nationwide protest scheduled to commence the following day.

The NLC’s decision to protest is rooted in the government’s alleged failure to implement agreements reached on October 2, 2023, after the removal of the fuel subsidy.

The 14-day ultimatum issued by the NLC to address the widespread hardship has spurred various groups and individuals to express their discontent through peaceful demonstrations across the country.
