Renowned Nigerian footballer Asisat Oshoala made a special presentation of her African Women Footballer of the Year award to President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu in Lagos on Thursday. The prestigious accolade, which recognises Africa’s top female football player, was bestowed upon Asisat by the Confederation of African Football in December, marking her record sixth win of the award.

Asisat expressed her gratitude to the first couple for their support throughout her successful year in football. She acknowledged their assistance during the World Cup tournament, particularly their involvement in addressing the team’s challenges and their ongoing support for the players even after the tournament concluded. Looking ahead to the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for January 2024, Asisat expressed unwavering confidence in the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles. The 34th edition of AFCON, set to be held in Abidjan from January 13 to February 11, 2024, promises to be a significant event in African sports.
