Governor Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke of Osun State has credited his success in the 2022 governorship election to the implementation of the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) in Nigeria. In an exclusive interview with ARISE TV, he underscored the pivotal role of BVAS in ensuring a fair electoral process, suggesting that without it, his opponents might have manipulated the results. Drawing a comparison with the disputed 2018 election, Adeleke, popularly known as the “dancing governor,” revealed that he believed his victory in 2018 was unjustly overturned, but he chose to move forward without contesting it.

Expressing gratitude for the BVAS implementation, Governor Adeleke acknowledged former President Muhammadu Buhari’s role in sanctioning the system into law. He noted that BVAS played a crucial role in securing his recent electoral triumph.

Governor Adeleke also addressed the controversy surrounding his alleged F9 grade in English from his WAEC exams. He clarified that the contentious grade was the result of allegations of exam leakage during the 1981 exams. Adeleke explained that during that period, the school board accused his set of having seen the exam paper in advance, leading to widespread failures.

He admitted that he did not wait to check his results as he had already secured admission to a US school. Only upon his mother’s death did he send someone to collect his results, discovering the F9 in English. He attributed the controversy to political motives, suggesting that opponents used it against him.

The governor’s remarks shed light on the significance of BVAS in ensuring transparent elections and highlighted his personal experience with the education system. His comments also underscored the complexities of the political landscape, where personal histories can become fodder for controversy.
