Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has recently declared the localization of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation within the state.

This announcement took place during a pivotal ceremony in the governor’s office on Tuesday, marking the commencement of the federal government’s distribution of grants to vulnerable groups in Kogi State.

The cash grants, amounting to N20,000 for each beneficiary, stand as a tangible effort to alleviate poverty and offset the impact of the fuel subsidy removal, particularly targeting vulnerable groups across Nigeria.

Dr Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, elucidated on the non-repayable nature of the grants during the distribution kick-off.

Emphasizing President Buhari’s commitment to uplifting Nigerians from poverty, she highlighted the establishment of initiatives to identify and support the country’s most economically disadvantaged citizens.

“Today in Kogi State, we are officially flagging off the Grant for Vulnerable Groups. It is a Kickstarter, and it should be used the right way. This is intended to boost your business, and it is expected that it will help in whatever you are doing,” she affirmed.

Governor Yahaya Bello expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, commending his humanitarian efforts aimed at alleviating poverty and eradicating hunger nationwide.

Describing the President as a compassionate leader with the welfare of the common man at heart, Bello underscored the need for the state to fully integrate into these poverty alleviation programmes.

Acknowledging the existing initiatives, Governor Bello officially announced the creation of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Kogi State.

Furthermore, he revealed plans to transmit a bill for the establishment of the Kogi State Social Investment Agency to the House of Assembly, alongside the budget for 2024.

In their goodwill messages, the Head of Service and Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Hannah Odiyo, and Mukadam Asiwaju Idris applauded the poverty eradication initiatives of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.

They expressed confidence in the continued benefit of Kogi State from the broader poverty reduction programmes implemented by the federal government.
