The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has expressed its endorsement of the recent call by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for opposition parties to unite in order to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and reclaim political power. In a press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday, the Acting National Chairman of NNPP, Abba Kawu Ali, conveyed the party’s support for Atiku’s proposition.

Ali affirmed, “The NNPP sees this call from Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as patriotic and a welcome development for which we unreservedly commend him.” However, the NNPP suggests modifications to the collaboration proposed by Atiku, advocating for a more comprehensive and inclusive approach.

While acknowledging Atiku’s call as reminiscent of the collaborative efforts that led to the defeat of the then ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015, the NNPP emphasizes its commitment to an all-encompassing alliance. The party asserts that any collaboration should transcend partisan interests and prioritize the welfare of the Nigerian people and the safeguarding of democracy.

The NNPP remains open to engagement with various political parties, including the PDP, Labour Party, and APC, as long as such collaborations serve the greater good of the nation. The party is currently assessing the political landscape and public sentiment. It welcomes initiatives and discussions from other political entities aimed at fostering national development, protecting democracy, and ensuring the well-being of the populace.

Notably, the NNPP highlights its populist profile, drawing strength from a well-thought-out constitution, manifesto, and the Kwakwasiyya Movement, dedicated to championing the cause of the common man. The party positions itself as a haven for the oppressed majority, consolidating its influence across diverse communities in Nigeria and beyond.

As the nation observes these political dynamics, there is anticipation regarding potential collaborations and alliances that may emerge to shape the political landscape in Nigeria. The NNPP’s stance underscores the complexity of forging alliances and the imperative of prioritizing the interests of the people in any collaborative venture.
