Governments and security agencies in the South-West have increased security around government buildings to prevent any disruption by Yoruba Nation agitators. Following a failed attempt by separatist agitators to take over the Oyo State Government Secretariat, security forces arrested 20 of them. These agitators aim to establish a separate Yoruba Nation, citing grievances with the Nigerian government. The federal government has opposed this movement, even pursuing prominent figure Sunday Igboho.

In response to the incident, the governments of Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun states have bolstered security measures. Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke emphasized the need for a united Nigeria while ensuring security around government structures. Ekiti State Commissioner Taiwo Olatunbosun echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the state’s readiness to maintain law and order.

Similarly, Ogun State has activated security measures to prevent similar incidents. Police Commissioner Abiodun Alamutu warned against any attempts to disrupt peace, affirming the police’s readiness to maintain order. Other states like Ondo have assured residents of adequate security measures.

Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba sociopolitical organization, condemned the invasion, calling it an ill-conceived plan that does not represent the Yoruba people’s true desires. They emphasized the importance of pursuing solutions through peaceful means, advocating for restructuring Nigeria. The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes also condemned the invasion, warning agitators to stay away from Ibadan.

Both organizations called for thorough investigations into the incident to hold perpetrators accountable. They praised the prompt response of security forces and government officials in restoring order. Overall, they emphasized the importance of peace and unity while addressing grievances through dialogue and legal channels.

  1. The actions of the Yoruba nation are unconstitutional. Nigeria became a federal state even before gaining independence. Any movement from either the northern or eastern states will be considered treasonous and could lead to civil war. These actions should be treated as treason against the nation
