Nasarawa State Governor Unveils Strategy to Boost State’s Revenue Through Agriculture and Mining

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has outlined his administration’s strategy to boost the state’s contribution to the federation account by focusing on the development of the agriculture and mining sectors. Speaking on a political program on Channels Television, Governor Sule emphasized the state’s commitment to diversifying its revenue sources beyond monthly allocations from the federation.

He highlighted agriculture, mining, and oil and gas as key sectors being vigorously pursued to enhance Nasarawa State’s contribution to the federation account. Governor Sule expressed his desire for Nasarawa to be known for its agricultural prowess, citing impressive statistics such as being the number one producer of sesame in the country, the fifth-largest rice producer, and the second-largest yam and cassava producer.

Governor Sule also revealed plans to engage youths in mechanized agriculture on a large scale to boost food production and create employment opportunities. He mentioned plans to purchase more tractors than needed and lease them to farmers to increase agricultural output.

In the mining sector, Governor Sule highlighted the establishment of a lithium processing plant in collaboration with Chinese companies, aiming to process 4000 metric tonnes per day. He expressed optimism about the economic benefits this venture would bring to the state.

Regarding oil and gas exploration, Governor Sule mentioned ongoing exploration efforts and expressed optimism about the state’s future involvement in the oil and gas industry. However, he acknowledged that it would take some time before Nasarawa State could make a significant impact in this sector.
