Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West in the National Assembly, has accused top individuals residing in Lagos and Abuja of being the masterminds behind the oil theft in the Niger Delta region. He made this revelation during an appearance on “Inside Sources” with Laolu Akande, a socio-political programme aired on Channels Television.

Dickson highlighted the complicity of the official system and oil firms in profiting from oil theft in the Niger Delta. He expressed concern over the lack of national values that allow people to exploit the country’s resources for personal gain.

The Senator questioned why Nigeria, a country that has been producing and exporting oil for the past 70 years, does not have a scientific way of metering and recording oil production and sales. He described this lack of accountability as deliberate and not limited to the Niger Delta region.

According to Dickson, the consequences of oil theft extend beyond economic loss to the destruction of communities, fueling of cultism, and proliferation of illegal arms and drugs. He emphasized the need for a global consensus, similar to the condemnation of stolen blood diamonds, to reject stolen crude oil from Nigeria.

Dickson called for political resolve at all levels of government to combat oil theft effectively. He urged authorities to take decisive action to end this dangerous trend and protect Nigeria’s oil resources.
