The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly has earmarked N600 million for the improvement of healthcare facilities across the state. This announcement was made by Mr. Moses Essien, the Chairman of the House Committee on Health, during a media briefing in Uyo.

The allocated funds are intended for the maintenance and enhancement of state-owned healthcare facilities situated in various areas across the three senatorial districts of the state. Mr. Essien emphasized the state government’s commitment to healthcare development, stating that approximately 85 percent of the 2024 budget is dedicated to upgrading hospital facilities in Akwa Ibom.

One of the key projects highlighted by Mr. Essien is the completion of the maternal and child hospital project initiated by the previous administration. He clarified that this project is a collaborative effort between the Federal Government’s MDG program and the Akwa Ibom state government, with a specific allocation set aside in the 2024 budget for its completion.

Addressing concerns about the progress of the hospital project, Mr. Essien assured the public that discussions with the commissioner for health and the governor have been positive. He expressed confidence that the project will be finalized by the end of the year, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to the people of Akwa Ibom.
