Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has urged the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Abubakar Momoh, to mobilise contractors back to sites to complete abandoned projects by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) across Abia State.

During a visit by the minister and his team to inspect road projects handled by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and NDDC, Governor Otti expressed regret that Abia State has suffered significantly from the abandonment of NDDC projects, with several roads in a deplorable state and in need of urgent attention.

Governor Otti acknowledged the importance of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and NDDC to the development of the Niger Delta region and appreciated the minister’s visit to Abia for the road inspection tour.

He highlighted the major hindrance to the completion of some NDDC road projects as long-standing debt for executed jobs, appealing to the minister to address the issue promptly to resume work on the projects.

Governor Otti commended the minister for the inspection visit and assured him of Abia’s commitment to partnering to achieve developmental goals.

In his remarks, Minister Abubakar Momoh praised Governor Otti for the improved security situation in Abia and urged him to continue prioritising peace in the region for economic prosperity.

He emphasised that the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs seeks collaboration with states rather than competition, stressing the need for a robust relationship between the ministry and states for meaningful development.

The minister’s visit and Governor Otti’s call for action highlight the ongoing efforts to address infrastructure challenges and promote peace and development in Abia State and the Niger Delta region as a whole.
