Saturday saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) making a significant contribution to its supporters in Kano State, demonstrating a solid commitment to welfare with a substantial donation of food items. The party handed out 7,740 bags of grains along with 2,000 cartons of spaghetti, targeting its followers across the state. This philanthropic gesture took place at Dawakin Kudu LGA, marking a pivotal moment of support and solidarity within the party ranks.

The distribution comprised 5,840 bags of 50kg rice and 1,600 bags of millet, meticulously planned to reach the party’s base in all 484 wards of the state. The state chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, led the inauguration of this initiative, highlighting it as a form of palliative to the party leaders and loyalists. This move underlines the party’s dedication to supporting its community, especially during challenging times.

Financing for this generous act of giving came from within the party’s own coffers, distinguished by contributions from key figures, including the Deputy Senate President, two ministers from the state, the APC national chairman, and several others closely affiliated with the APC’s leadership structure. This self-sustained effort stands as a testament to the party’s resolve in ensuring the welfare of its members without relying on government funds.

Amidst this act of generosity, a call for transparency and accountability was raised by Mr. Abbas towards the NNPP government regarding its Ramadan feeding programme. The APC chairman’s remarks questioned the alleged expenditure of N6 billion by the state government, urging them to furnish proof that the funds were indeed spent on the feeding programme as claimed. He juxtaposed the federal government’s and private sector’s contributions, notably from the Bua and Dangote groups, against the state’s reported spending, inviting a more open discourse on the allocation and utilisation of funds in public welfare projects.

As the APC in Kano demonstrates leadership through action, the challenge now extends to the NNPP government to clarify its spending, thereby ensuring that public funds are accounted for and that the benefits reach those in need. This move by the APC not only fosters community support but also ignites a crucial dialogue on transparency and responsibility in governance.
