Presidency Accuses Northern Political Forces of Plotting to Destabilise Nigeria Under Tinubu’s Watch

The Presidency has attributed the recent surge in kidnappings in northern Nigeria to political forces in the region aiming to destabilise the country under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale made this claim during an interview with TVC on Sunday night.

Ngelale highlighted the challenges faced in securing the country, noting relative stability in the South-East but pointing out ongoing security issues in the North-Central, North-West, and North-East regions. He stated, “across the North, we understand that some of the sub-regional geopolitical forces that are currently at play are actively conspiring against the stability of the Nigerian nation.”

Regarding the recent kidnapping of over 280 schoolchildren in Kaduna, Ngelale revealed that the United States government has pledged assistance to ensure their safe return. He emphasized the need for collaboration, both regionally and internationally, to address the actors behind these destabilising actions.

In response to the kidnappings, President Tinubu condemned the acts and called on security agencies to rescue the abducted individuals. However, Amnesty International and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party criticized Tinubu, accusing him of failing in the basic responsibility of securing life and property.

Despite Ngelale’s assertion, his statement attributing the kidnappings to political forces in Northern Nigeria has been met with controversy, with critics pointing to contradictions with the facts on the ground. The situation highlights the complex security challenges facing Nigeria and the need for a concerted effort to address them.
