Femi Adesina, the former Special Adviser Media to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has asserted that his former boss left Nigeria significantly improved from when he took office. Adesina, also a former president of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, made these remarks in an interview with ThisDay newspaper.

When questioned about his assessment of whether President Buhari left Nigeria in a better state than he met it, Adesina confidently replied, “Far better than he met it.” He elaborated on this by highlighting the key promises made by President Buhari upon assuming office in 2015, which centered around improving security, revitalizing the economy, and combating corruption, collectively known as the Security, Economy, and Anti-corruption (SEA) agenda.

Adesina pointed out the significant improvement in the country’s security situation during Buhari’s tenure, contrasting it with the frequent bombings and widespread insecurity that plagued Nigeria before 2015. He emphasized the reduction in terrorist attacks and bombings under Buhari’s administration, particularly during religious holidays, which were previously marred by violence.

While acknowledging that there are differing opinions on Buhari’s legacy, Adesina highlighted the administration’s efforts in reducing corruption and improving the economy. He noted that the government’s actions, such as the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and the fight against corrupt practices, contributed to Nigeria’s progress during Buhari’s tenure.
