Alhaji Jibrin Ndace, the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), has announced that the Federal Government is set to introduce the National Values Charter in the near future. This revelation was made during his address on behalf of the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi, at the 2024 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Week in Niger State.

Ndace outlined that the National Values Charter will be based on the principle that the government, represented by elected officials, is obligated to provide certain basic needs for its citizens and must lead by example to uphold a strong commitment to a social contract with the citizens.

The National Values Charter is expected to include “seven core promises” from the Nigerian state to its citizens, as well as “seven commitments” that citizens are expected to make towards their country.

Addressing the recent controversy surrounding the relocation of some units of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos State, Ndace clarified that the move is not politically motivated. Instead, it is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving operational efficiency, streamlining processes, and ensuring a more responsive financial system for the country. Additionally, the relocation is intended to reduce operational costs.
