PDP Group Calls For Wike’s Expulsion, Blames Ex-Governor For Travails Of Defected Lawmakers
The group attributed the loss of seats by 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), to the influence of Nyesom Wike, a former governor of the state. They urged the lawmakers to hold Wike responsible for their loss.
Meanwhile, the PDP National Solidarity Vanguard, representing youths of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), called for the immediate expulsion of Nyesom Wike from the party. They accused Wike of sabotaging the PDP by allegedly using former PDP lawmakers to undermine Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The crisis escalated when 27 State House of Assembly members aligned with Wike defected to the APC in December 2023. At a press conference in Abuja, the Executive Director of the Vanguard, Usman Saidu Calculus, labeled Wike as a saboteur who disregards the true essence of leadership.
Calculus blamed Wike for the predicament of the former PDP lawmakers, accusing him of prioritizing personal gain over the party’s interests. He emphasized the importance of leadership qualities beyond financial prowess, citing wisdom, humility, and genuine commitment to the people as essential.
The Vanguard condemned Wike’s alleged treachery and called for his expulsion from the PDP, stressing that political parties serve the collective interests of citizens, not individual ambitions. They cited legal luminary Femi Falana’s viewpoint that political parties are institutional entities serving the public good.
Calling for decisive action from the PDP leadership, Calculus urged the party to expel Wike to prevent further losses of lawmakers and members across states, especially with upcoming general elections. The Vanguard reaffirmed its commitment to PDP’s principles and called for unity to rebuild the party.
In summary, both SheCan Nigeria and the PDP National Solidarity Vanguard hold Nyesom Wike accountable for political losses in Rivers State and advocate for his expulsion from the PDP, citing alleged sabotage and disregard for party unity and principles.
