Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has expressed confidence in the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary, stating that it has demonstrated its commitment to delivering impartial judgments that are not influenced by monetary considerations.

Speaking to reporters at the Yola International Airport upon his return to Adamawa after the Supreme Court upheld his election victory on Wednesday, Governor Fintiri commended the judiciary for its steadfastness and professionalism. He emphasized that his personal experience with the judiciary has reinforced his trust in its ability to uphold the rule of law.

“I have never lost faith in the judiciary. They have been steadfast in their duties and have not allowed justice to be compromised,” Governor Fintiri stated.

The governor also referenced a past incident involving Hudu Ari, the state resident electoral officer who was suspended for prematurely declaring a winner in the 2023 elections before all results were collated. Governor Fintiri highlighted this case as an example of the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the law, noting that the Supreme Court’s ruling against Hudu Ari’s actions underscored the criminality of such misconduct.

In the Supreme Court’s judgment, it was declared that Hudu Ari’s premature declaration of a winner was illegal, as he was not the authorized returning officer for the election. This decision reaffirmed the judiciary’s stance against electoral malpractice and improper conduct.

The governor’s comments reflect a broader sentiment of trust in the judiciary’s ability to uphold justice and fairness in Nigeria’s democratic processes. His affirmation of the judiciary’s integrity comes at a time when there are ongoing debates about the role of the judiciary in ensuring free and fair elections in the country.
