Ogun House of Assembly Inaugurates Elemide Oludaisi as New Speaker, Ratifies Oluomo’s Impeachment

In a session attended by 22 out of 26 members, the Ogun House of Assembly held its plenary on Tuesday to inaugurate Elemide Oludaisi as the new Speaker, representing Odeda constituency. This follows the ratification of the impeachment of Olakunle Oluomo, who was removed from his position last Tuesday.

During the plenary, chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Bolanle Ajayi, the Chairman of the Ad hoc committee, Musefiu Lamidi, presented the report of the committee’s investigation into the allegations against Oluomo. Lamidi emphasized that the committee’s purpose was to ensure a fair hearing for Oluomo regarding the allegations, clarifying that it was not a witch-hunt.

According to Lamidi, Oluomo objected to some committee members, claiming they were unfit to investigate him as they had signed the impeachment notice against him. Subsequently, Oluomo walked out on the committee, refusing to answer further questions. Lamidi noted that this behavior demonstrated Oluomo’s disregard for the committee and the House of Assembly, implying an acknowledgment of the allegations against him, which included financial impropriety and lack of focus.

The committee found Oluomo guilty of the allegations and recommended his impeachment. This recommendation was moved by Lamidi and seconded by Oluseun Adesanya. Following a majority vote by the 22 attending members, Oluomo was officially impeached and removed as the Speaker of the Ogun House of Assembly.

In his place, Elemide Oludaisi was nominated by Adegoke Adeyanju and seconded by Adeniran Ademola. After taking the oath of office, Elemide assured the members of inclusive leadership and called for unity to advance the state’s progress.

Earlier, the deputy speaker had read a letter of impeachment signed by 25 out of 26 members, initiating the process that led to Oluomo’s removal from office.
