Bashir Ahmad, a former Digital Communications Assistant to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has voiced criticism against Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, for his recent visit to the Al-Kadriyar family. The visit comes in the wake of the tragic murder of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar by her abductors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

During his visit, Obi expressed his condolences, stating, “May the memories of Nabeeha and all those who have lost their lives to such violent attacks inspire us, especially we the leaders, to take more decisive action against this ugly monster of insecurity.”

Ahmad questioned the timing and intent behind Obi’s visit, particularly highlighting the absence of such support during the efforts to rescue Nabeeha and her sisters from captivity. He criticized the visit as a move to serve Obi’s personal and political interests, rather than genuine sympathy, especially as it was accompanied by photographers.

Furthermore, Ahmad urged the Al-Kadriyar family to be cautious about granting access to politicians who bring along a media entourage, implying that such visits are more about photo opportunities than sincere empathy.

In a contrasting observation, Ahmad pointed out that even Prof. Isa Pantami, the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, and his associates, who were significant contributors to the rescue efforts, did not undertake a similar visit accompanied by journalists.

Meanwhile, Peter Obi has called on governments at all levels to take more decisive action against insecurity in Nigeria, echoing the sentiments expressed during his condolence visit.
