The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has unveiled the Presidential Initiative to deploy Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mass transit buses, which is expected to significantly reduce transport costs by over 50%. In a statement to the press on Sunday, Idris urged Nigerians to view this initiative as a relief measure introduced by the Tinubu administration to mitigate the economic challenges arising from subsidy removal.

Idris emphasized the collaborative efforts of relevant Ministries and Agencies of the Federal Government in addressing key economic issues. He highlighted interventions such as the Students’ Loan Scheme, the deployment of lower-cost CNG mass transit buses as an alternative to petrol and diesel, and various low-interest loan schemes for businesses, all designed to benefit the populace.

Addressing the controversies surrounding the relocation of some departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the corporate headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Idris clarified that these moves are aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and reducing operating costs, rather than being politically motivated to marginalize any region.

Idris stressed the importance of national unity and cautioned against narratives that could incite discord and threaten the country’s cohesion. He warned against the dissemination of inciting and false information on various media platforms, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant against forces seeking to sow division.

The minister called for collective efforts in building the Nigeria of everyone’s dreams, emphasizing that the task of nation-building transcends religious, ethnic, or geographical boundaries.
