Former political aides of the late Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, have swiftly tendered their resignations, citing allegiance to their deceased leader. Among those who resigned are a commissioner, special advisers, and assistants who were appointed during Akeredolu’s tenure.

The resignation coincides with the assumption of office by the new governor, Honorable Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who was sworn in as the seventh civilian governor of the state by the Chief Judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola.

While the aides claim their decision to resign is out of loyalty to the late Governor Akeredolu, sources reveal that their fear of being replaced by the new governor drove their actions. According to a reliable source, the resignations were preemptive, as the aides anticipated a cabinet reshuffle under the new leadership.

Explaining their decision, one of the resigning aides stated that their loyalty lay solely with Governor Akeredolu, even in death. They expressed concerns about facing backlash from the supporters of the new governor if they remained in their positions.

Among those who tendered their resignations are Raimi Aminu, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing; Dare Aragbaye, Special Adviser on Union Matters; Richard Olatunde, Chief Press Secretary to the late governor; and Olawale Abolade, Special Assistant on Photography.

The atmosphere at the governor’s office has been somber, with many workers absent following the news. A condolence register has been opened, with over 70 people signing it as of yesterday.

The late Governor Akeredolu has been remembered by workers, especially for his role in the establishment of Amotekun, a security outfit in the Southwest region. Notable personalities, including former Governor Olusegun Mimiko and first-class monarchs in Ondo State, have condoled with the family and the state government over the loss.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Ondo State expressed deep sorrow at the governor’s passing, highlighting his efforts in addressing pension issues in the state.

The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in Owo, Ondo State, also paid tribute to Governor Akeredolu, emphasizing his support for the association and his impact on the legal profession.

In another tribute, former Speakers of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan and Rt. Hon. Abdulsalam Taofik Olawale, lauded Governor Akeredolu’s leadership and contributions to the development of the state.
