Amidst the lingering uproar over the tragic Christmas Eve massacre that claimed the lives of at least 195 individuals in Plateau State, the Middle-Belt Forum (MBF) has raised alarm about a potential fresh assault.

According to Stanley Kavwam, the MBF Deputy National President, the insurgents have reportedly issued a threat to Pushit community in Mangu LGA, with plans to carry out the attack on December 29, 2023. Kavwam revealed this information during an interview on Arise TV, highlighting that anonymous sources had delivered letters detailing previous attacks on Mangu LGA.

The United Nations, Northern Caucus of the House of Representatives, and other prominent figures have voiced their concerns following the recent spate of violence in Plateau State. They have called for a thorough investigation into the attacks that claimed the lives of many and displaced thousands.

Additionally, Bishop Francis Oke of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action to address the escalating insecurity in Plateau State, emphasizing that the restoration of peace in the region cannot be delayed any further.

The recent attacks in Plateau State have raised serious questions about the effectiveness of security agencies and the government’s response to the crisis. The Middle-Belt Forum has accused security forces of being aware of the attackers’ identities and hideouts, yet failing to prevent further assaults. Meanwhile, political leaders and advocacy groups are demanding accountability and swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore peace to the troubled region.
