Senate President Godswill Akpabio has announced the vacancies of two senatorial seats, those of David Umahi (Ebonyi-South) and Ibrahim Giadam (Yobe-East), following their appointments as ministers. The announcement was made during a plenary session in Abuja, in accordance with Section 68, Subsection (1)(d) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Akpabio has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to initiate the process of conducting by-elections in the two senatorial districts without delay. This move follows the swearing-in of Simon Lalong, the former Minister of Labour and Employment, as the new senator representing Plateau South during the same plenary session.

As the Senate prepares for the by-elections, all eyes will be on the candidates who will step forward to contest for the vacant seats.
