Tinubu Urged to Intervene as Rivers State Faces Political Turmoil

The political landscape of Rivers State is currently embroiled in a heated crisis, prompting members of the National Assembly to call upon President Bola Tinubu to intervene and address the escalating tensions. The call comes in the wake of a series of resignations from Commissioners in Governor Fubara’s Cabinet over the past 48 hours, adding fuel to the already tumultuous political scenario.

Amidst the chaos, two Federal lawmakers from the state, Boma Goodhead and Awaji-Inombek Abiante, took to the streets in a peaceful solidarity walk, supporting Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara’s initiatives. The march, starting from CFC Junction on Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway and culminating at Government House, aimed to showcase unity amid the ongoing political unrest.

Goodhead, representing Asari Toru/Akuku Toru Federal Constituency, expressed concern over the alleged intimidation of Governor Fubara by the former governor, Chief Nyesom Wike. She urged President Tinubu to intervene and instructed security agencies to address the disruptive actions of the former governor in the state.

Abiante, representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro federal constituency, commended Governor Fubara for taking steps to renovate the Rivers State House of Assembly complex amidst the crisis. He emphasized the need for elected officials to stand firm in the face of challenges, echoing the sentiment that no king reigns forever.

In a surprising twist, the Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party, Mrs Beatrice Itubo, appealed to Chief Nyesom Wike and Governor Fubara to seek resolution avenues for the benefit of the state. Itubo expressed concern about the adverse effects of the political turmoil on businesses and the livelihoods of Rivers State residents.

As holiday seekers avoid the state, hotels remain empty, and businesses suffer, Itubo urged all parties involved to sheath their swords for the sake of peace and development. The Labour candidate emphasized the importance of mediation and sacrifice to bring about lasting peace in Rivers State.
