Federal Secretariat in Abuja Hit by Fire, Thick Smoke Blankets Area,Cause Unknown

A fire broke out at the Head of Service office situated within the federal secretariat complex in Abuja, resulting in the release of thick smoke.

The incident prompted the response of firefighters from the Federal Fire Service, who swiftly arrived at the scene to tackle the flames.

The cause of the fire remains elusive, and it has impacted Block C within the Head of Service complex. Mohammad Ahmed, the Director of Communications for the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, confirmed the occurrence, pointing out that an explosion in the Electrical Utility Room on the third floor triggered the fire.

The room, currently utilized as a solar and inverter room by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), experienced the explosion.

Ahmed disclosed that the situation was brought under control by the Federal and FCT Fire Services at approximately 5:00 p.m. The incident affected the utility rooms on the second to the eighth floors of the building.

The presence of Permanent Secretaries from the Common Services Office-OHCSF, Lydia S. Jafiya, and the Special Duties Office, Faruk Yusuf Yabo, along with directors from the affected MDAs, was noted at the scene of the incident.
