Gunmen Kill Senior Assistant To Edo House Of Assembly Speaker With Weeks To Governorship Election

Samson Omoarebokhae, a Senior Special Assistant to the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, was killed by gunmen on August 31, 2024. The incident occurred while Omoarebokhae was traveling from Ozalla to Uhumora in Owan West Local Government Area. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, particularly in relation to the upcoming Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.A statement from the Speaker’s office, delivered by Special Adviser Ivy Adodo-Ebojele, confirmed the tragedy. A delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Odion Iruobe, visited Omoarebokhae’s family to offer condolences. Iruobe described the loss as significant to the Assembly, the PDP, and the people of Owan West, expressing hope that the family would find solace.Elijah Omoarebokhai, the deceased’s brother, thanked the Speaker for the delegation’s support during their mourning period. Meanwhile, police spokesperson Chidi Nwabuzor was unable to confirm the details of the incident as he was away on a course at the time.
