The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has extended a complimentary nomination opportunity to John Akinmurele, a former student leader, as the sole contender for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State. A statement released on Thursday highlighted Akinmurele’s background, including a 13-year tenure in the Department of State Services before transitioning to private business.

The nomination event, held at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, saw Akinmurele, a former President of the Students’ Union Government at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo state, receive both nomination and Expression of Interest forms without any financial obligation. William Moses, the National Organising Secretary of the YPP, presented the forms to Akinmurele, emphasizing the party’s decision to waive fees for the aspirant.

Moses cited Akinmurele’s youth, integrity, extensive experience, and leadership acumen as key factors behind the party’s support for his political aspirations. He noted that the YPP’s stance reflects a commitment to fostering a generational shift in leadership, championed by intellectually progressive and innovative young leaders devoid of personal greed.

In response, Akinmurele expressed gratitude to the YPP’s National Working Committee (NWC) for their generosity, acknowledging the honor and responsibility bestowed upon him. He expressed determination to justify the confidence placed in him and pledged a dedicated effort to secure victory in the election, signaling a potential shift in the state’s governance.

Akinmurele highlighted the significance of the YPP’s gesture in contrast to prevailing practices in other political parties, where aspirants are often required to pay exorbitant fees for nomination forms. He emphasized that offering nomination forms free of charge signifies progress in democratic principles and underscores the importance of fostering credible political leadership.

Looking ahead to the gubernatorial election scheduled for November 16, 2024, Akinmurele affirmed his commitment to instigating a paradigm shift in the state’s political landscape, guided by principles of integrity and public service.

The YPP’s decision to support Akinmurele’s candidacy reflects a broader movement towards promoting youth leadership and ethical governance in Ondo State’s political arena. By offering a free nomination opportunity, the party aims to challenge traditional norms and empower emerging leaders who prioritize the interests of the people over personal gain. As the electoral process unfolds, Akinmurele’s candidacy symbolizes a potential transformation in the state’s governance, driven by a new generation of principled and visionary leaders.
