Chief of Defence Staff Affirms Military’s Commitment to Democracy, Rejects Calls for Takeover

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has reiterated the military’s commitment to democracy, affirming that the armed forces will not intervene in the affairs of a democratically elected government. Speaking during his operational visit to the Headquarters 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Gen. Musa emphasized the importance of democracy, stating that the military is more effective and contented under democratic governance.

He condemned calls for a military takeover, describing them as unpatriotic and harmful to the nation. Gen. Musa emphasized that those advocating for such actions do not have the country’s best interests at heart. He stressed that democracy is the best path for Nigeria, noting the progress and development that have occurred under democratic rule.

Addressing the challenges facing the country, Gen. Musa stated that the government is taking actionable measures to address them. He urged all citizens to support the government in resolving these issues, rather than calling for undemocratic interventions.

In a show of loyalty to the government, Gen. Musa pledged the military’s commitment to preserving peace and order in the country. He urged Nigerians to unite and work together to defeat the enemies of progress and ensure the nation’s success.
