Governors elected under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have advised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) led by President Bola Tinubu to gracefully step down if it cannot effectively mobilise Nigerians and all levels of government for sustainable solutions to the nation’s myriad challenges.

In a statement released by the PDP Governors’ Forum Director-General, Hon CID Maduabum, the governors emphasized that the hardships faced by Nigerians transcend tribal, religious, or party affiliations, emphasizing that “a hungry man is an angry man.”

The PDP Governors stressed that as the Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria, the President holds ultimate responsibility for the nation’s welfare, urging the APC-led government to focus on solving Nigeria’s problems rather than shifting blame or resorting to propaganda.

Expressing dissatisfaction with criticisms from the APC-led government regarding their suggestions and interventions, the PDP Governors reminded the ruling party of its mandate to improve Nigeria’s situation, not worsen it.

They pointed out the need for cooperation between the federal and state governments in finding lasting solutions, particularly in addressing security and economic challenges. The governors reiterated their call for the establishment of state police and urged the fiscal and monetary authorities to collaborate for effective solutions.

The PDP Governors commended President Tinubu for engaging in discussions with the states to address these issues promptly. However, they cautioned that failure to take urgent action could lead Nigeria into a crisis similar to Venezuela’s.

The statement highlighted the PDP-governed states’ track record of implementing beneficial policies, regularly paying salaries and pensions, and contributing positively to their states’ development. The governors reaffirmed their commitment to working with the President to steer Nigeria out of its current challenges.
