President Bola Tinubu convened a crucial meeting with state governors in Abuja to address the nation’s pressing issues, particularly focusing on security and the cost of living crisis. Emerging from the meeting, a government spokesperson announced that both the president and the state governors acknowledged a “significant improvement” in the country’s security situation.

Speaking to reporters, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris emphasized the positive developments in security across Nigeria. He highlighted the return of farmers to their fields in Borno and Jigawa, areas previously affected by insecurity. Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State also echoed these sentiments, acknowledging improvements in security despite ongoing challenges.

However, many Nigerians may dispute these claims, especially in light of recent violent incidents. Terrorists attacked Zamfara state, killing 13 people, including two police officers, and abducting over 40 individuals. Similar attacks occurred in Katsina State, where terrorists ambushed motorists, resulting in casualties and destruction of property.

The Nigerian Bar Association expressed deep concern, describing the country as being “under siege” due to the escalating insecurity. In a letter to President Tinubu, the NBA highlighted the severity of the security challenges facing Nigeria, calling for urgent action to address the situation.

Despite ongoing security challenges, President Tinubu and the governors commended the efforts of security agencies. They acknowledged the sacrifices made by security personnel and called for increased efforts to ensure a completely secure Nigeria.
