Nigerian Army Rescues 18 Kidnapped Women in Katsina State

Troops of the Nigerian Army successfully rescued 18 female kidnapping victims from bandits and handed them over to the Katsina State Government on Wednesday. Brig.- Gen. Oluremi Fadairo, the Brigade Commander of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Katsina, revealed that the soldiers conducted a rescue operation in the Yan-Tumaki and Dan-Ali forests, engaging in a successful gun battle with the terrorists before rescuing the victims.

The rescued women were handed over to Dr Nasiru Mu’azu, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, by Fadairo. The Brigade Commander emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to continuing efforts to restore permanent peace in the state and urged personnel to sustain such rescue operations to free other kidnapped victims.

In response, Mu’azu reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to restoring permanent peace in the state. He highlighted Governor Dikko Radda’s significant investments in the security sector, which have yielded positive results. Mu’azu commended the Military and other security agencies for their courageous service in restoring peace and urged them to maintain the momentum.

Mu’azu warned bandits, kidnappers, and other criminals to repent or face severe consequences. He assured security agents that the government was making necessary efforts to rescue women kidnapped on their way to a wedding ceremony in Sabuwa Local Government. Mu’azu advised people, especially in frontline local governments, to avoid night travels for their safety and urged citizens to provide useful information about criminals and their hideouts.

The commissioner presented N100,000 to each rescued victim on behalf of Governor Radda. The rescued women, all abducted from different communities in Matazu, Musawa, and Kankara Local Government Areas, expressed gratitude to Allah and the soldiers for their rescue. Firdausi Bishir, a 13-year-old JSS two student abducted from Sayaya, thanked the governor for the financial support to start businesses after returning home.
