FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Vows to Revive Abandoned Projects, Prioritizes Rural Development

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to finalize all stalled projects across the six Area Councils of the territory. This commitment was made during the inauguration of a five-kilometre dual carriageway construction in Kuje, Kuje Area Council, Abuja.

Mr Wike emphasized the continuity of projects awarded in the past, stating that the government cannot afford to waste public funds by abandoning them. He highlighted the importance of these projects in improving the lives of the people and affirmed the government’s determination to see them through.

The construction of the five-kilometre road in Kuje was initiated based on a nomination by the Kuje Area Council Chairman, Mr Abdullahi Sabo. It is part of the current administration’s efforts to extend development to rural communities, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.

The minister emphasized that rural development through infrastructure provision transcends political affiliations and is a testament to good governance. He assured that every area council, regardless of political leadership, would receive attention and development.

Mr Wike announced plans to commence the total renovation of at least 25 schools and complete abandoned hospital projects in the next one or two weeks. He emphasized the government’s focus on not just roads but also schools and hospitals to serve the people effectively.

The FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, emphasized the importance of rural road infrastructure in enhancing productivity, creating employment opportunities, and stimulating local economies. She stressed the need to prioritize rural communities’ needs alongside urban development.

The Chairman of the Kuje Area Council, Mr Abdullahi Sabo, commended the project, stating that it would address challenges such as perennial floods and drainage issues in the area. He pledged the council’s support to complement the minister’s efforts in bringing development to the people.

The traditional leader of Kuje, the Gomo of Kuje, Haruna Jibrin, praised the minister for his commitment to renewing hope for residents. He highlighted the positive impact of the road project on movement, economic growth, and development in the area.
