Suspected bandits have fatally shot General Segun Aremu (rtd), the Olukoro of Koro community, and abducted his wife and two others during an invasion on Thursday night.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed the tragic incident, condemning the killing of the Olukoro of Koro as reckless, shocking, and abominable. He urged security agencies to spare no resources in tracking down the perpetrators, freeing the abducted individuals, and bringing the culprits to justice.

“We will certainly apprehend the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity,” the Governor stated, expressing his deep condolences to the people of Koro. “Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always,” he added in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, in Ilorin on Thursday night.

Police operatives have initiated an investigation, and a search and rescue operation is underway for the abducted victims. The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area has been deployed to the late monarch’s palace.

Koro community in Kwara State is a neighboring town of Irele/Oke, Ako/Ipao/Oke Aiyedun, and Ikole in Ekiti State. The Ekiti communities have recently witnessed attacks on three monarchs, resulting in the death of two, while one escaped.
