In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Mohammed Idris Malagi, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms. Malagi emphasized the need for time to implement these reforms effectively, stating that they are essential for the nation’s growth and development.

Defending Tinubu’s long-term plans for the country, Malagi urged Nigerians to be patient, noting that the dividends of such plans might take longer to materialize. He acknowledged that while there may be challenges and setbacks along the way, the president’s vision is clear: to lead Nigeria towards prosperity.

Highlighting the relatively short time Tinubu has been in office—seven months—Malagi cautioned against prematurely judging the president’s performance. He stressed that long-term plans require careful structuring and time to yield results, urging the public to remain steadfast despite any initial difficulties.

Addressing concerns about the impact of these reforms on everyday life, particularly the cost of food items, Malagi assured that the government is working diligently to address such challenges. He acknowledged the difficulties faced by citizens but assured them that the government is committed to mitigating their effects.

President Tinubu had earlier announced the end of the fuel subsidy during his inaugural address in May 2023, citing the unsustainable nature of the subsidy. He explained that the funds previously allocated to the subsidy would be redirected to critical sectors like healthcare, transportation, education, housing, and national security.
