Suspected Kidnappers Kill Two Traditional Rulers in Ekiti State Ambush

Tragedy struck in Ekiti State as two traditional rulers were killed by suspected kidnappers. The monarchs, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olushola (the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti) and Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin (the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti), were returning from a security meeting in Irele-Ekiti when they were attacked by gunmen in Ikole Local Government Area on Monday. They were traveling in a vehicle driven by their colleague, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, the Alara of Ara Ikole-Ekiti, who managed to escape the ambush.

According to reports, the assailants attempted to kidnap all three traditional rulers, but tragically, Oba Olushola and Oba Ogunsakin lost their lives in the attack. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting concerns about the security situation in the area. Chairman of the Ajoni Local Council Development Area, Michael Ogungbemi, confirmed the tragic event, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the revered leaders.

Meanwhile, the state police spokesman, Sunday Abutu, has pledged to provide further details on the incident as soon as possible. This appalling incident has raised serious questions about the safety of traditional rulers and the overall security situation in Ekiti State. The authorities are expected to launch a thorough investigation to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent such heinous crimes from recurring.
