Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for failing to extend condolences to the Oyo State government following the explosion in Bodija, Ibadan. Makinde expressed his appreciation to the former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, who visited his office to offer condolences.

During Obi’s visit, Makinde revealed that Atiku Abubakar, a major candidate in the 2023 general election, had not reached out to him. Makinde emphasized the importance of leaders showing empathy and support during challenging times.

The explosion, which occurred on January 16 in Bodija, resulted in loss of lives and property. Following his meeting with Obi, Makinde called for a reduction in the cost of governance at the federal level as a necessary step to improve the country’s economic situation.

Makinde stressed the need for all leaders to work together and make sacrifices to address the country’s challenges. He highlighted the importance of prioritizing critical sectors such as education, health, and poverty alleviation, calling for a shift in focus from political activities to governance.

The governor’s comments reflect the growing need for unity and cooperation among political leaders to tackle pressing issues facing the nation. Makinde’s call for cost-cutting measures in governance aligns with ongoing discussions about improving Nigeria’s economic stability and development prospects.
