The Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Akwa Ibom State has merged its structure with that of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. This decision was announced over the weekend during a visit by the YPP’s governorship candidate, Senator Bassey Akpan, deputy governorship candidate, AIG Asuquo Amba (rtd), State Executive Committee led by its Chairman, Pastor Nyeneime Andy, its Elders’ Council, chapter and ward officers to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio in Ukana, Essien Udim Local Government Area of the state.

Senator Akpan clarified that the decision to merge the party structure into the APC is not motivated by any intention to contest elections in 2027. Pastor Nyeneime Andy, the State Chairman of YPP, added that the party’s candidates in the legislative houses will officially defect to the APC after the rerun election in Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency and Ibiono Ibom State Constituency.

In response, the Senate President expressed his appreciation for the move, stating that it reflects the recognition of the president’s efforts to address the nation’s challenges by opposition parties.
