Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has expressed frustration over what she perceives as Minister Nyesom Wike’s lack of response to her communications regarding the deteriorating security situation in the FCT. In a recent interview on Channels Television, Senator Kingibe revealed that she has made efforts to engage with the Minister on the security challenges plaguing the FCT, including sending messages and letters, but has received no response.

According to Senator Kingibe, her attempts to discuss the escalating insecurity in the FCT with Minister Wike have been largely ignored, with the Minister allegedly showing more receptiveness towards her predecessor, Senator Philip Aduda. She highlighted that her concerns about the security situation, particularly in areas like Mpape, where residents have been affected by insecurity, have not been adequately addressed by the Minister.

The Senator recounted a specific instance when she raised the issue of security with Minister Wike during a budget defence session at the National Assembly. However, instead of addressing her concerns, the Minister reportedly dismissed her claims, accusing her of exaggerating the severity of the situation.

Senator Kingibe expressed her intention to summon Minister Wike and relevant security agencies before the Senate’s FCT committees to discuss their plans for addressing the security challenges in the FCT. She emphasized the need for concrete strategies to protect the residents of the FCT, especially in light of the recent increase in abductions and killings by bandits, particularly in the Bwari Area Council.

Despite the assurance from Minister Wike that the FCT Administration is taking steps to address the security challenges, Senator Kingibe remains adamant about holding discussions to ensure that effective measures are in place to safeguard the FCT residents.
