The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has called for a crucial meeting with the Force Management Team and Tactical Squads to address the rising concerns about insecurity across Nigeria. Reports from Daily Trust indicate that bandits have been invading homes and abducting residents, leading to a surge in tension.

The situation escalated when several Abuja residents, including a 13-year-old secondary school student, were killed due to failure to pay ransom. In response to these events, the IGP expressed deep concern and stressed the need for decisive action to combat such heinous crimes.

A statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, highlighted the IGP’s focus on addressing the evolving security challenges through a coordinated and intelligence-driven approach. During the meeting, the IGP emphasized the importance of proactive measures to prevent criminal activities and protect citizens.

Tactical squads were briefed and instructed to intensify their efforts in deploying these measures. Assuring Nigerians, especially residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), of improved security, the IGP directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Department of Operations, to personally oversee the implementation of enhanced security strategies in the FCT to combat kidnappings and restore normalcy.

In addition to operational strategies, the IGP emphasized the significance of community engagement and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to gather information and enhance trust in combating criminal elements.
