Following the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, has assumed leadership responsibilities in compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive. This decision comes in the wake of allegations against Edu regarding her involvement in a N585 million fraud, where she is accused of channeling public funds into private accounts.

Enitan’s assumption of duty followed a letter from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, received by him on Monday night, instructing him to take charge of the Ministry.

President Tinubu, through his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, directed the suspended minister to cooperate fully with the investigating authorities while handing over to the Permanent Secretary. Additionally, a panel led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of the financial structure of social investment programmes to address any institutional weaknesses and regain public trust in the initiative.
